A small rear urban site at Mt Maunganui beach, the Turner Residence celebrates a home of discerning ease, comfort and modernist characteristics.
The home is conceived as simple forms with materials used to enhance and identify the various exterior proportions, with considered approach made to the vertical form.
Materials include vertical shiplap cedar with beveled recess and narrow in width, staggered painted brickwork and vertical metal profile wall claddings. Mono pitch roofing discharges roof water to external guttering systems.
The north facing lower free form living provides efficient solar orientation, coupled with dramatic double height living creating cohesion with upper level living spaces.
Vertical elements of the cedar shiplap and “in-between” open stud walls reinforce connectivity of the homes interior spaces.
The design outcome quite simply surpassed the client’s expectations and provided an unexpected sense of space.
